HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY
A LITTLE "UNDER THE WEATHER" - possibly too much Guinness and Old Bushmills, or maybe it was that extra helping of corned beef and cabbage...swear I'm seeing things this morning!~ Do you see it too? Anyway, HAPPY SAINT PATTY'S DAY from all of us at The Kitty Mafia Art Works - Me, Aoi, Catman, Super Sumie, the Nekojins, and Bin, Bo, and Gami, the poverty spirits brought on by "Abenomics" and the pending rise in the consumption tax in Japan.

CATMAN REDUX: New Year's Greetings For The Year Of The Snake - 2013
Even though it's now 2014, the Year of the Horse, I thought this cartoon was worth sharing again.
The Tsuchinoko (ツチノコ or 槌の子) literally translating to "hammer's spawn," is a legendary snake-like cryptid from Japan. The name tsuchinoko is prevalent in Western Japan, including Kansai and Shikoku; the creature is known as bachi hebi (バチヘビ) in Northeastern Japan.
Tsuchinoko are described as being between 30 and 80 centimetres in length, similar in appearance to a snake, but with a central girth that is much wider than its head or tail, and as having fangs and venom similar to that of a viper. Some accounts also describe the tsuchinoko as being able to jump up to a meter in distance.
According to legend, some tsuchinoko have the ability to speak and a propensity for lying, and is also said to have a taste for alcohol. Legend records that it will sometimes swallow its own tail so that it can roll like a hoop, similarly to the mythical hoop snake.
CATMAN REDUX - Before There Was A Kitty Mafia Art Worx
Before there ever was a Kitty Mafia Art Worx, there was the Kasahara Kitty Works and their first product - Saito & Sumie's Cat Spit grooming aid, which was never sold in the USA due to some problems with the Food and Drug Administration.

A MESSAGE FROM SUPER SUMIE TO THE PEOPLE OF FUKUSHIMA:
A tsunami deprived people of their lives, homes, money, etc. But a tsunami cannot deprive a person of their inborn gifts, knowledge, or the ideas that they hold within their minds. Many people have had to relocate and take shelter in uncomfortable surroundings in the Fukushima region. Some people have been cut off from their subsidies by TEPCO ~ a senior citizen on a pension of only ¥40,000 a month cannot buy much food: not even a simple meal sometimes.
I made a cooking art group about 3 years ago in Japan. Now we have 12 members
Our purposes are:
1. To make something tasty by using chap foodstuffs and at the same time to make our families smile.
2. To have fun making food that is easy to prepare.
This year, I, who iz Super Sumie, made dolls for the Girl’s Festival on March 3 – of all things out of eggplants.
I hope someone who lives in Fukushima will see this note and these photos of my cooking, and that they will make that person smile, even if it is only just for a moment.
